Message from the Vice-Chancellor

The University of Ghana is pleased to be part of the Africa-wide Master of Research and Public Policy (MRPP) programme. The appropriateness of a programme of this kind, with its focus on research and public policy, at a time when African societies are undergoing major governance restructuring cannot be overstated. Having a common programme across several African countries means that the training students receive in their various countries will spread common values about public policy for democratic development. This will contribute immensely to capacity development on the continent for effective development policy making and management of implementation programmes.

Technocrats, development managers and practitioners both in public service and the private sector stand to gain from enrolling in the MRPP. It will equip them with academic and professional skills for policy design from a holistic perspective and with skills for the monitoring and evaluation of implemented programmes.

Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko, Programme Coordinator

The MRPP programme at the University of Ghana was launched in February 2016 when it enrolled its first cohort of students. The programme is being hosted by the University’s Centre for Social Policy Studies. Courses are taught by a team of faculty from the University of Ghana and a few faculty from other universities in Ghana. Some University of Ghana faculty have partnered with faculty in other MRPP programmes on the continent to teach courses and have also been actively involved as resource persons in training courses in pedagogical skills. The University of Ghana programme therefore starts on a strong footing.

Students enrolled on the programme have access to the Centre’s library which is well stocked with core reading materials. The University of Ghana’s Balme Library has several online data bases that provide access to a wide range of e-resources.  The programme is offered on weekdays in the evening from 5.30-8.45pm. Courses are designed to be interactive and are offered using a variety of pedagogical techniques such as e-cases and role play.
